Dormeuil

In 1842, a nascent vision took root as the young Jules Dormeuil embarked on a quest to introduce the finest English cloths to French shores. Soon joined by his brothers, Auguste and Alfred, a familial enterprise blossomed, establishing prestigious locations in both Paris and London. Within decades, Dormeuil had garnered a distinguished reputation for sourcing the world’s most exceptional raw materials.

Employing innovative techniques, particularly in the art of finishing, the House secured global acclaim. For 180 years, Dormeuil has seamlessly interwoven its rich heritage with cutting-edge technology, anticipating the evolving demands of discerning clientele. Collaborating with leading figures in the fashion industry, Dormeuil has consistently refined its sophisticated collections, solidifying its position as a preeminent purveyor of fine cloth.

Harrisons

From its 1827 Edinburgh origins as James & Ogilvie, the lineage of Harrisons of Edinburgh began in 1863 with Sir George Harrison’s acquisition. By 1900, international exports were established, marked by the iconic Thistle trademark. Offices expanded to major European capitals in the early 20th century.

After partnering with Porter and Harding in the 1950s, a full merger occurred in 1993. Lear Browne and Dunsford (LBD) acquired Harrisons in 1999, transforming it into the prominent name it is today. Subsequent acquisitions of Pedersen and Becker (1989), H Lesser & Sons (2010), and Smith & Co. with W. Bill (2014) further solidified Harrisons’ position as a leading purveyor of fine cloths.

Holland and Sherry

Since 1836, Holland & Sherry has furnished prestigious tailors and luxury brands with the world’s finest cloths. Founded as woollen merchants on London’s Old Bond Street, the firm expanded to Golden Square by 1886, then the heart of the trade. By 1900, international exports and a New York office were established. In 1982, the headquarters relocated to Savile Row.

The 1968 acquisition of Scottish cloth merchant Lowe Donald further solidified its presence. Sourcing exquisite natural fibres, from Super 240’s to vicuña, Holland & Sherry continues its time-honoured weaving tradition, crafting cloths that represent a true investment in sartorial elegance.

Loro Piana

Established in 1924 in Piedmont, Italy, Loro Piana is a purveyor of exceptional textiles and refined ready-to-wear. From its origins as a merchant of exquisite fibers—cashmere, vicuña, linen, and merino—the house has cultivated a legacy of unparalleled craftsmanship, extending its expertise to knitwear, leather goods, and accessories. Now part of the LVMH portfolio, Loro Piana remains synonymous with luxurious materials and Italian heritage

Scabal

Scabal’s pursuit of textile mastery predates its 1938 founding, with its Huddersfield mill producing textiles since 1539. Founder Otto Hertz established Scabal as a global textile purveyor, inventing the now-standard fabric bunch in 1946. A 1971 collaboration with Salvador Dalí envisioned future menswear.

Scabal established its Savile Row presence in 1972, supplying fabrics to Hollywood and Broadway. Acquisitions of the Bower Roebuck mill (1973) and Tailor Hoff (1989) solidified its expertise. Scabal pioneered superfine wools in the 1990s and introduced precious material blends in 2000. Today, the family-owned enterprise maintains full European production and operates in over 65 international markets.

Vitale Barberis

Vitale Barberis Canonico’s textile heritage traces back to 1663, evidenced by a documented sale to the Duke of Savoia. Embracing automation in the 19th century and electrification in the early 20th, the company continuously modernized its production. By 1921, its high-quality fabrics were exported globally.

Despite economic and wartime challenges, the Vitale Barberis Canonico® brand was established in 1936. Subsequent strategic advancements cemented its international reputation. Celebrating 350 years in 2013, the firm joined Les Hénokiens, a testament to its enduring commitment to textile innovation and quality.

Over a century ago, Ermenegildo Zegna established his Trivero wool mill in the Italian Alps, envisioning the creation of the world’s most exquisite fabrics alongside a commitment to environmental stewardship. Under the fourth generation of family stewardship, ZEGNA has ascended to become a preeminent luxury menswear brand, renowned for impeccable Italian craftsmanship and material expertise.

From the inception of Oasi Zegna to its presence on the New York Stock Exchange, ZEGNA remains guided by its founder’s harmonious vision of industry, community, and nature, exemplified by its commitment to traceable fibers.

Drago Lanificio

Established in 1973, the Drago family’s spinning company swiftly became a key player in Biella’s textile landscape. Expanding internationally by 1980, the company further broadened its scope with the 1993 acquisition of Lanificio Fintes, fully integrated into the Drago Group by 2001.

Drago operates as a vertically integrated woollen mill, meticulously selecting raw materials and producing over 1.7 million meters of high-quality fabrics annually. From spinning and weaving to finishing in its Lessona and Verrone factories, Drago provides premium textiles to distinguished international brands.

Fox Brothers & Co.

Established in 1772, Fox Brothers & Co Ltd. has cultivated a distinguished legacy of crafting fine woollen and worsted fabrics for three centuries. Credited as the originators of flannel, Fox possesses an invaluable pattern archive tracing back to its very foundation. With unwavering dedication, the company has maintained continuous production within England since the 18th century.

Seamlessly blending time-honoured practices with cutting-edge technology, Fox Brothers produces a curated selection of exquisite textiles for every season. Esteemed by prestigious tailors and contemporary fashion houses alike, the luxurious cloths are sought after for their premium qualities and profound heritage, embodying the quintessential essence of English textile artistry.

Dugdale Bros & Co. reimagines classic menswear for the contemporary gentleman, drawing inspiration from centuries of weaving tradition. In 1896, Henry Percy and Frederick Herbert Dugdale established their merchant business in Huddersfield, the heart of Britain’s fine worsted trade.

Through prosperous times and wartime challenges, the firm remained under Dugdale family stewardship for two generations. Today, Dugdale continues its commitment to designing and manufacturing exceptional cloths, embodying timeless elegance and unparalleled textile expertise.

From its Neapolitan origins in the early 1900s, Caccioppoli has cultivated a legacy of providing exceptional fabrics to the world’s finest tailors. Established by Vincenzo Caccioppoli and later joined by his sons, the firm became a respected purveyor of premium Italian and English textiles.

Through generations of dedicated stewardship, Caccioppoli expanded its reach, supplying renowned houses like Loro Piana, Vitale Barberis Canonico, and Zegna. Today, Caccioppoli offers an exclusive cut-length service, distributing bespoke collections—crafted in Biella—to discerning clientele across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, embodying timeless Neapolitan style.

Based in West Yorkshire, Huddersfield Fine Worsteds is an internationally renowned fabric manufacturer supplying the world’s biggest design houses and most prestigious tailors with superior and selectively-sourced fabrics.

Alfred Brown

Founded in 1915, Alfred Brown (Worsted Mills) Ltd. has cultivated a legacy of weaving fine worsted cloth in England. From supplying essential services to becoming a key player in Leeds’ garment industry, the company established a London presence in 1952, expanding its reach to discerning tailors and retailers.

Under subsequent generations of Brown family stewardship, the firm achieved prominence in UK high-street stores and international markets. Today, Alfred Brown remains committed to its heritage of British design, reliable service, and the enduring quality of fabrics “Woven in England.”
